Georgia Bell is our special guest as the AW team discuss the end of an eventful season, the changing face of the sport and the impact of super shoes

Have developments in super shoes taken too much attention away from the achievements and skills of the athletes or are they making athletics more exciting? This is one of a number of questions considered by the AW team in the latest episode of the Athletics Weekly Podcast, which is out now.

As attention turns from the track towards the roads and the autumn marathon season, host Euan Crumley is joined by Olympic medallist Wendy Sly and running shoe guru Paul Freary to discuss the impact that the development of footwear is having on the sport. With times falling and events speeding up in general, there’s little doubt that the shoes are making a difference.

It’s one of the many aspects of athletics that is in the midst of change, with new projects such as Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track and Alex Ohanian’s Athlos events looking to make waves and disrupt the established order of things. This show examines that shifting landscape, too.

Someone who has very much embraced change and has reaped the benefits of doing so is Britain’s Georgia Bell. The 30-year-old is the special guest this month and chats about the rapid progress she has made since returning to athletics, becoming an Olympic and European 1500m medallist, as well as the British record-holder.
